Tom McGrath, director of DreamWorks Animation’s March 2017 release The Boss Baby, has been working in the field of entertainment for more than 20 years. A multifaceted talent, McGrath also starred in, and executive produced, DreamWorks Animation’s Penguins of Madagascar, which was released on November 26, 2014.
Following the runaway success of 2005’s box-office hit Madagascar, for which he directed and voiced the lead penguin “Skipper”, McGrath reprised the same roles in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. In addition, McGrath voiced Skipper for the Penguins of Madagascar TV show on Nickelodeon, and the short films; The Madagascar Penguins in a Christmas Caper, Merry Madagascar and Madly Madagascar.
Outside of the Madagascar franchise, McGrath directed 2010’s Megamind, and has just wrapped directing The Boss Baby, which is scheduled for release March 31st, 2017.
Prior to joining DreamWorks Animation, McGrath worked in the areas of story and concept design for such features as Cats & Dogs and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. He also worked as an animator and story artist on such animated films as Space Jam and Cool World. His television work includes directing on The Ren & Stimpy Show, as well as other projects for Nickelodeon. In addition, Tom has worked on the shorts Herd and The Thing What Lurked in the Tub and as a directing animator on national commercials for Coors Light and Subaru.
Tom graduated from the Character Animation program at Cal Arts after studying Industrial Design at the University of Washington.
